Deanna Kroetz

PhD
UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty member Deanna Kroetz, PhD, co-created and co-directed the first course, called Foundations, in the School’s new PharmD curriculum. She is a molecular and clinical pharmacologist with a background in pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, and drug transport. She has a deep understanding of interindividual variation in drug response and toxicity. Her focus on translational research is reflected in the breadth of her research, which spans clinical pharmacogenetic association studies, functional genomics studies in cells and model organisms, and animal- and cell-based molecular pharmacology studies. She is an elected fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and serves as deputy editor of Clinical and Translational Science. In addition to teaching in the PharmD degree program, Kroetz directs UCSF’s PhD degree program in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics. She earned a BS in pharmacy from Ohio State University and a PhD in pharmaceutics from the University of Washington.
