Dr. Malone is professor emerita (Recalled) in the UCSF School of Nursing’s Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She is internationally known for her tobacco-industry research, which focuses broadly on the public-relations aspects of the tobacco epidemic, particularly US-based companies’ strategic activities that aim to undermine public health and tobacco-control policy. Dr. Malone published studies examining the tobacco industry’s targeting of marginalized groups through product advertising and corporate activities.. Dr. Malone has served as an expert consultant to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US Department of Justice, and the World Health Organization. Since 2009, she has served as editor-in-chief of Tobacco Control, a leading tobacco-control policy journal
